CHUNG GI WA
Hello guys! Sorry that we didn’t post anything for
a couple of weeks. It’s been a
hectic month. My sister, Jessyca, has been busy with her work, and I was busy
studying for my exam. Well, at least now we’re back! Okay, around October, we went to
Chung Gi Wa, a Korean BBQ restaurant located in Semarang. We came here for a
few times, but only got the chance to write the review several weeks ago. Chung
Gi Wa is not only located in Semarang, but they also have restaurant branches
in Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya. For your information, they provide organic
vegetables, fresh
from their own farm in Sukabumi. About the exterior, their restaurant facade
gave us that traditional Korean restaurant vibe.
The interior was pretty good. The color
palette that they use gave us warm ambiance, and we can
actually stay there for hours without being uncomfortable. Each table has a
Korean BBQ exhaust and a stove top grill pan so that the grilling process can
be done at customer’s table. We really love it when that beautiful smell
of grilled meat starts to coming out from that grill pan! Jjang!
It’s no secret that every time we go to any Korean BBQ restaurant, they
will serve us with various kind of side dishes and it’s refillable. Koreans
call it banchan. As for us the kimchi here was perfectly sour and spicy.
They also
served refillable ice tea for free! Oh, and the lettuces were also refillable. Thumbs up!
Yangnyeom Gui 87K
Yangnyeom
gui is a grilled pork dish marinated in Chung
Gi Wa
special sauce. It was marinated well
and also richly
seasoned. The
sweet and savory flavor from the sauce blended nicely. The texture of
this yangnyeom gui was tender. It actually depends on how the pork was grilled.
The waitresses usually offer whether we want it to be grilled by them or
our self. Since we’re not good at grilling, we always ask them to grill it. Once
we ordered the same dish but the texture was really stringy. Maybe because the
waitress at that time was a trainee. But most of the time we came to this
restaurant the texture of the meat turned out good. Overall we love yangnyeom gui and will come back just to eat this.
Samgyeopsal 87K
Samgyeopsal has always been one of our favourite dish in Chung Gi Wa. It’s a thin sliced grilled pork belly. Again, the tenderness of the meat depends on how you grill it. And this time it turned out to be so tender, juicy and savory. Overall this dish never failed to feed my palate.
As we
all know (probably ‘we’ refers to people who enjoy Korean drama, show, and etc.)
Koreans usually enjoy eating the freshly grilled meat by wrapping them with the
huge leaves
and various topping, for example sauce, chili, garlic, salt, etc. I tried to
make my own wrap with the huge lettuce, two slices of samgyeopsal and a piece
of kimchi. You know what? It turned out
so delicious! You can taste sour, spicy, savory and the freshness of the
lettuce altogether at once. You definitely have to try making your own Korean wrap
with this dish!
Kimchi Jjigae 65K
Definitely
one of the most ordered stew for us. Kimchi Jjigae is a spicy kimchi stew with
pork, tofu, onion, red and green pepper. This dish came with a bowl of rice. It’s
sour, savory, spicy and just perfectly seasoned. It’s such a heartwarming and
addicting stew.
Galbitang 72K
Galbitang is a short rib
soup with glass noodle and egg. We like how fresh and warm it was. The short
rib was very delicious and tender. Even though I’m not a fan of glass noodle,
but it was also good. The portion was
generous (actually, it’s a big portion). Eat with rice, it was a perfect
healthy bowl of soup. We defo will eat this again!
As for the dessert, they
served slices of fresh watermelon for free. Seriously? Who doesn’t want free
fruits?! So do we! Although it’s a free dessert, they gave us good quality
watermelon. It’s sweet and fresh. This watermelon was just perfect as a dessert.
After eating those fatty meals, its
freshness balance everything.
That’s all guys, our
review about Korean BBQ Restaurant Chung Gi Wa. This restaurant is definitely
the place you should consider if you’re a fan of Korean food especially the grilled meat ones. You can also visit other Chung Gi Wa closest branch in your
neighborhood. We hope you all enjoy reading our post and love to come back. Thanks
